Security Notification: Adobe Reader

Our Category: Urgent

Solution Available: Adobe Workaround

Source: blogs.zdnet.com/security

My attention was drawn to this today. It seems that it is possible for hidden code to be executed when opening a PDF. Obviously one wouldn’t trust unsolicited PDFs. However the exploit is so serious that one should not be complacent about PDFs from trusted sources either. Fortunately there is a workaround and I would urge people to apply it NOW. Also make your virus checker is set to check PDFs.

The full details are in the link above but the quick guide to applying it:-

Open Adobe Reader. Choose the “Edit” menu and then select “Preferences”.

Highlight “Trust Manager” on the left and take the tick out of the box marked “Allow opening of non-PDF file attachments with external applications”. Click on “OK”.
